„THE NIGHT OF THE MUSEUMS“ AT THE COTROCENI NATIONAL MUSEUM |

The Cotroceni National Museum joined the 5th edition of the European Night of the Museums program, initiated by the French Culture and Communication Ministry, on Saturday, the 16th of May, 2009. This edition this year was initiated under the patronage of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Mr. Terry Davis and, for the first time, of UNESCO. Program: 18.00 - 18.30: opening of the exhibition „Symphony of Menus“. The Simphony of menus exhibition offers visitors an insight into the refined atmosphere of dinners of the Royal family, through the menus prepared during the reigns of king Carol I, Ferdinand I and Carol II exhibited, some bearing their signatures.The menus were prepared by chef Doru Creoşteanu,of the Ramada Majestic Hotel. Next to royal menus are those served in numerous occasions, honouring important political and cultural personalities (Ion I.C. Brătianu, Take Ionescu, gen. H. Berthelot, Mihail Manoilescu, the actress Marioara Ventura, the journalist Pamfil Şeicaru etc), served in both French and Romanian restaurants, old recepy books, the Bohemia crystal table set and the silver table set of queen Mary. The exhibition also presents the public with music scores played during royal events, dedicated to queen Mary and queen Elizabeth, by Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven, Carl Ziehrer, Iosif Ivanovici. The exhibition gives an insight into the daily life at the court of the Romanian royal family. 18.00 - 18.30: opening of the exhibition „The Royal Family of Romania in Postcards“, second edition, in collaboration with the Bucharest Municipality Museum and the National Military Museum „King Ferdinand I“. 18.30 - 23.30: free access to the National Cotroceni Museums and to the workshops hosted here: - hand made paper, by Banffy Bela and Agoston Istvan, „Natura Paper“ workshop in Cluj Napoca; - „Arts and crafts today “ with students from the Arts University of Bucharest, Decorative Art and Design Department, Ceramics and Metal; - „Workshop at Cotroceni“ with students from the Architecture Department of the „Spiru Haret“ University at the Cotroceni National Museum; - visiting the exhibition „Balcic, a Bridge over Ages“ - project initiated by Elite Art Gallery. |
