During the 7th edition of the „Johann Strauss“ International Festival, on Thursday, April 30th 2009, 11 am, the Cotroceni National Museum hosted the conference entitled „The Romanian Connection: Memories about the kings of the Viennese waltz and their Romanian associates“, presided by John Diamond, the president of the „Johann Strauss Society“ in Great Britain.
John Diamond became a member of the „Johann Strauss Society“ in Great Britain in 1983, and was elected president in 2000. It issues the „Vienna Music“ magazine, and the annual bulletins of the society. He initiated the recording of rare compositions, both in opera and orchestra and collaborated with the Romanian Association of Waltz Lovers in producing the first and only CD by Iosif Ivanovici.
John Diamond has put up a database registrating thousands of recordings of Viennese music belonging to the British Society and has a diverse network of collaborators in the field.
