„Heavenly Gates“
Sculpture Exhibition by Pavel Bucur
            Wednesday, November 11th 2009, at 6 pm, the Cotroceni National Museum hosted the opening of the exhibition „Heavenly Gates“, by Pavel Bucur.
            Pavel Bucur graduated from the Plastic Arts College in Cluj in 1965 and the „Nicolae Grigorescu“ Institute of Plastic Arts in Bucharest, the Sculpture Department, class prof. Ion Lucian Murnu, in 1971.
            During his career, Pavel Bucur participated in more than 90 national exhibitions, 60 international exhibitions, and set up 39 personal exhibitions. The majority were opened in Romania, but also abroad, in Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland.
            Between 1976 and 1987 he took part in the International Sculpture Biennales in Spain and Italy and between 1971 and 2009 he participated in more than 15 national and international sculpture conferences.
            40 large dimensional works (1,20 m × 3,80 m) by Pavel Bucur are publicly exhibited in Romania and abroad - Germany, Italy, Poland - using different materials: fir wood, Ruşchiţa and Carrara marble, Istria stone, limestone, stainless steel, aluminium.
            He has won numerous awards in his almost 30 years of career: First Prize - Măgura Buzăului (Romania, 1974), First Prize Oronsko (Poland, 1975), Special Prize in Sculpture, for the Youth Monument (Romania, 1986), The Special Prize of the Jury - Simposio di Scultura Fannano, (Italy, 1991), First Prize - Simposio Internazionale di Scultura (Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, 2000, 2001),  Third Prize - Simposio Internazionale di Scultura (Madonna di Campiglio, Italy, 2003).
           Pavel Bucur’s works are to be found in museums and private collections in Romania, Germany, Italy, the U.S.A., France, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, Greece, Israel, Canada, Argentina, Belgium, Russia. In 1982 he was nominated as „Men of Achievement, International Biographical Center“, Cambridge, the UK and ten years later in „Who’s Who in International Art“,, in Switzerland.
            The exhibition at the Cotroceni National Museum presents sculptures, graphics and tapistry signed by Pavel Bucur, aiming at giving an accurate account of one of the most talented monumentalist sculptors in Romania.
