The Cotroceni National Museum, with the support of the Romanian Academy Library, the Carol I University Central Library, the National Museum Complex Moldova in Iaşi, the Union Museum, Iaşi, the Romanian Literature Museum Iaşi, the Metropolitan Library Bucharest, the National History Museum, the Romanian Literature National Museum, the National Library of Romania have organized on Tuesday, June 29th 2010, at 6 pm, the opening of the exhibition Vasile Alecsandri, a friend of the Royal House, on the 120th anniversary of the poet’s death. Poet, playwriter, member of the Academy, member of the government and diplomat, Vasile Alecsandri (1821-1890) has brought an outstanding contribution to the formation of modern Romania. Supporter and participant in the 1848 revolution, member of the Union commitee in 1859, Vasile Alecsandri has remarcably captured in his literature the important moments in the national history. A close friend of the royal family, particularly of queen Elisabeth, the Romania poet was a frequent guest in the cultural events organized by the queen, and the one who familiarized her with popular culture and encouraged her in writing. The exhibition presents the public with Alecsandri’s manuscripts, first editions, rare books with the author’s autograph, corespondence, papers and photograps, personal objects from Mirceşti, medals, diplomas, portraits, busts, costumes wore by important actors of the time.
