THE EXHIBITION MARKS THE 70 COMMEMORATION OF THE GREAT PAINTER AND GRAPHIC ARTIST
          The Cotroceni National Museum have organised on Wednesday, March 17th 2010 in the Medieval Spaces of the museum, the opening of the exhibition „Tonitza - harmonies of colour“.

          Organised with the help of prestigious museums in Bucharest and the country: The Bucharest Municipality Museum, the „Ion Ionescu-Quintus“ Prahova County Arts Museum, the Arts Museum Craiova, the Bruckenthal National Museum Sibiu, the Arts Museum Braşov, the Arts Museum Bacău, the Vasile Pârvan Museum Bârlad The Rudolf Schweitzer-Cumpana Art Gallery of the Argeş County Museum, the exhibition marks the 70 commemoration of the great painter and graphic artist.

          In 1916 he exhibits in Bucharest 94 paintings and drawings together with Ştefan Dimitrescu. After the war he sets permanent residence in Bucharest, where he takes part in exhibitions, illustrates books, publishes in numerous magazines, either drawings or chronics. In 1924 he participates in the Venice Biennale, as next year comes the separation from the Romanian Arts Association, together with Francisc Şirato, Oscar Han and Ştefan Dimitrescu , who come to be known as the „Group of Four“. Up to 1934 numerous exhibitions of the four will open in Romania, while Tonitza, already considered the greatest living Romanian painter will also exhibit abroad: Barcelona (1929), Amsterdam (1930), Bruxelles (1935). The exhibition displays 83 paintings and graphics, divided according to theme: childhood, Balcic and the quiet charm of Dobrudja, portraits, Oriental inspired themes.

          The exhibition is open up to May 10th and can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9.30 to 5.30 pm.
