The Cotroceni National Museum, in partnership with the National Museum of Romanian Literature and in collaboration with the National Romanian History Museum, the National Museum Complex Princely Court, Târgovişte, the National Museum Complex Moldova, Iasi, the Romanian Literature Museum, Iasi, the museum of Jew History „Chief Rabbi Dr. Moses Rosen“, the museum collection of the Armenian Gregorian Episcopy, has organized on Thursday, June 9th 2011, 6 pm in the Cerchez Room of the Cotroceni National Museum, the opening of the exhibition „In memory of time, instruments in the art of writing“. The exhibition „In memory of time, instruments in the art of writing“ aims at presenting the public with writing instruments, belonging to famous personalities of Romanian political, social and cultural life or represent exquisite pieces of their age. Visitors will be able to see pocket inkwells and seal rings from the 18th century, gilded quill pens belonging to George Bariţiu, ink pen belonging to C.A Rosetti, inkwells used in the meetings in 1857, the drawing set belonging to prince Al. I. Cuza, the golden quill of king Carol, the desk files of King Carol I, Queen Elisabeth and Prince Nicholas, the pen used by Ion C. Brătianu during the Congress of Berlin in 1878, the golden pen of marshal Alexandru Averescu, the writing desk of Nicolae Iorga, the desk set of Petru Groza etc. One could also remember the atmosphere of the times where classics of Romanian literature such as Mihail Sadoveanu, Calistrat Hogaş, Şt. O Iosif, Al. Macedonski, George Coşbuc, Liviu Rebreanu, Tudor Arghezi, Camil Petrescu, George Călinescu, Alexandru Brătescu-Voineşti used to write. It shall be refashioned by exhibiting desk objects belonging to the writers: pens, inkwells, coupe-papier, press-papier, desk files, pens and manuscripts or typewriters, all attesting that writing can be a passion as well as an art. The exhibition will also feature objects belonging to the Jew intellectual community in Romania. Therefore, a small part of the exhibition will be dedicated to the collection of Armenian munuscripts, belonging the the library of the Hovsep and Victoria Dudian culture house in Bucharest, bearing in mind the extensive influence (started in the 5th century) of centers of copying and creation of Armenian manuscripts, on the miniatures of the Romanian Principalities. The exhibition will be opened to the public between June 9 and August 31 2011 and can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday, between 9.30 and 5.30.
