Since one of the main functions of a museum is education, the National Cotroceni museum continues to organize an extensive program in museum pedagogy. It aims at familiarizing young generations of students with the national heritage and the importance of its preservation and usage over time. This being said, our institution has answered positively, from the beginning, to any proposals coming from different educational institutions. At the beginning addressed to universities, the museum pedagogy program was diversified in order to include both elementary and highschool students. In the case of university students, the program functions as an internship. Thus, through lectures and courses held by out specialists, the students get acquainted to museums, discover their importance in education today, understand the input of conservation and restoration, of using the national and world heritage, and get to know the structure of a museum. The Cotroceni National Museum participated as partner - by offering free access in the museum- in the first two editions of Studentiada, an event organized by the students of the Polytechnic School of Bucharest, which proved to be a very popular project. As for elementary and highschool level students, a new museum pedagogy program Notice, listen, learn was launched in 2007. It entails visits to the museum and lectures for the students. They can be taught with the help of documents, photographs, bibliographies that deepen the understanding of the subject. Different cultural activities that involve students are another direction of the museum pedagogy program, in the temporary exhibitions of the Cotroceni National Museum. The museum has organized theme contests for elementary and highschool students, linked to the anniversary of important events in national history, but also Romanian culture and civilization.
